Lutheran South Academy Football
Earlier this season, I made what is turning into an annual trip to the campus of Lutheran South Academy to photograph some good ole Texas high school football. The Pioneers, fresh off of a coaching change, have not had a great start to the season. They lost both of the games that I attended and currently have a 1-4 record. Hopefully they can get their season turned around starting tonight with a game against Fort Bend Christian Academy. Shout out to the early season September games when the sun sets about 20 minutes after kick-off.

Dobie v. Hightower - High School Basketball Playoffs
I've always thought of Dobie High School athletics as the Little Longhorns because they have an eerily similar resemblance to Austin's professional sports teams. I finally saw them in real life play and win a playoff basketball game against Hightower. Both Hightower and Dobie are currently out of the playoffs but Dobie made it to the regional final while being the 4th best team in their district. In other words, they weren't supposed to be there.

Sterling v. La Grange - High School Basketball Playoffs
The road to the state championship has begun and teams from all over Texas are vying to win the crown. Earlier this week, I photographed a 4A class match-up between Sterling and La Grange. I spent a little time with Sterling last year before they went to the state semi-finals but the team looks a little different this season. Regardless, they advanced with an 80-59 victory over La Grange. On to the next.

Sterling High School Basketball
A couple of weeks ago, I photographed the Sterling High Raiders boys hoops practice before they went off to San Antonio to play in the state tournament. It was Monday March 9th and shout out to senior guard Avery Ragland for paying homage to The Notorious One who probably died before Ragland was even born. The practice which consisted of a fast break drill, a scrimmage, free throws and an impromptu dunk contest was about as light and as loose as you could get. Coach Andrea (pronounced Andre) Young assured me that it was mostly a rest day and the practices would ramp up tomorrow and the rest of the week.
At the end of that week, the Raiders went on to advance past the semi-final and on to the state championship game where they suffered an 83-53 loss to Bridgeport (a team powered by 4 junior transfers). Shout out to Houston hoop legend Clyde Drexler who apparently wore #42 and wrecked shop at Sterling High in the late 70s before moving on to the University of Houston.

Lutheran South Academy Football: Homecoming
Back to back posts on Lutheran South Academy Pioneer football...they must be doing something right. This time, they sent the Second Baptist Eagles back to Woodway and Voss with a 54-42 loss and started homecoming off in style. The Pioneers got a monster of a game from senior RB Justin Matthews with 355 yards rushing and 5 TDs. Shout out to the Homecoming Queen who was quite surprised to get a W of her own.
