Dobie v. Hightower - High School Basketball Playoffs
I've always thought of Dobie High School athletics as the Little Longhorns because they have an eerily similar resemblance to Austin's professional sports teams. I finally saw them in real life play and win a playoff basketball game against Hightower. Both Hightower and Dobie are currently out of the playoffs but Dobie made it to the regional final while being the 4th best team in their district. In other words, they weren't supposed to be there.

Atascocita v. Klein Forest - High School Basketball Playoffs
Atascocita boys basketball is ranked 5th in the country according to this USA Today national ranking. But I hesitate to call them the best team in Texas because at the moment that this is published, they have yet to play their semi-final game against Sam Houston in the state tournament. Last week, I photographed Atascocita's win over Klein Forest to advance to the regional semi-finals.

Sterling v. La Grange - High School Basketball Playoffs
The road to the state championship has begun and teams from all over Texas are vying to win the crown. Earlier this week, I photographed a 4A class match-up between Sterling and La Grange. I spent a little time with Sterling last year before they went to the state semi-finals but the team looks a little different this season. Regardless, they advanced with an 80-59 victory over La Grange. On to the next.

The Harlem Globetrotters
I photographed a Harlem Globetrotters event at NRG Arena late last month for the Houston Press. After 90 years, the star spangled ballers are still up to their wacky shenanigans. The last time I saw the Globetrotters was probably at The Summit and I have to say that the show was just as entertaining in 1994 as it is in 2016.

Kevin Floyd of The Hay Merchant
I recently photographed Kevin Floyd, the self proclaimed owner/beer guy at The Hay Merchant here in Houston. Although I've never been there at night, The Hay Merchant sounds like my kind of place because they have televisions, interesting decor and the beer list is long as hell. For part of the shoot, I took Kevin over the the adjacent restaurant, Underbelly, where a lot of the beer is stored. As a side note, I went to that restaurant with my wife, my homey Phelps and Tom Sietsema (in spirit) and the food was incredible. Anyway, big shout to Kevin for enduring a keg as a seat, all for the good of the shoot.

Julia Heymach - Texas State Cross Country Champion
Julia Heymach, junior cross country state champion from Lamar High School, was named girls runner of the year for the third consecutive year by the Houston Chronicle. She finally took home the state championship after finishing second as a freshman and third as a sophomore. Big shout to Julia for coming to school on the first day of her Christmas break to take a bunch of photos. On another note, did y'all know that Lamar High's class of '87 buried a time capsule that is scheduled to be unearthed in 2037? Can't wait!
