Hastings High School Football 2014

Last year I kicked around with the Fightin' Bears of Hastings High School in my old hood of Alief. This year I decided to spend a little more time with them thinking my nephew would be on the team. But guess who was at practice this summer and guess who wasn't? Me and him. He's decided as a sophomore...that he wanted to focus on basketball. But that's another story for another day. Anyway, shout out to Coach Martel and the Bears! Good luck this season.

Hastings High School Football

If you checked out my post from yesterday, you would have seen my foray into Katy Football. Well, this is part two of that same story but a different school. Hastings High in Alief. Hastings is a tiny bit special to me for a few reasons. It's a stones throw from Alief Amity Park where I spent countless hours during my teenage years perfecting my game on a concrete court. It's the school where my nieces and nephew have and will graduate from. And it's one of the two public high schools I would have gone to had I not attended Chinquapin.

Hastings has a little bit of a different story than Katy. This past season was the first season with new head coach David Martel and a new coach means a new beginning. The Bears finished the season 4-7 while going a very respectable 4-2 in district play. I also spent time at a handful of practices and shot the 49-6 loss to Morton Ranch. Check it out!

The Twins

Numerous Facebook posts over the past week or so have led me to believe that we're right around the first day of school. A good number of my social media friends have grade school aged children. So I've seen lots of first day photos of colorful backpacks and ear to ear grins, sans a few teeth. Now I don't have any children of my own to partake in the annual ritual but I do have nieces and a nephew. Two of my nieces, aka The Twins, have recently graduated from high school and just last week started classes at San Jacinto College. I don't have those first day of school pictures because that would make me the embarrassing uncle. But I did take some pictures of them after their high school graduation. Shout out to Keita and Keisha and good luck this semester! Well all of your semesters actually...but one step at a time.
