The Ides of February: Panthro Edition

Last month was portrait of a toy from a movie from my childhood. This month, a little of the same. Next month, I promise I'll switch it up. I promise.

If there was a cartoon draft, ThunderCats would go first pick, first round every time. Followed by TMNT and Recess of course. But my favorite character on my favorite cartoon show was Panthro. I can't recall exactly why but maybe it was because his voice was that of a Black actor (Russell Huxtable) or maybe it was because he had a bald head like my dad. Whatever it was, Panthro also happened to be the last remaining relic of my late 80s ThunderCat paraphernalia.
Shout out to the gray panther with the spiked suspenders and the pawed, two-toned nunchucks.

The Ides of January: Joker Edition

Near the middle of each month, I've decided to showcase a picture not related to sports, portraits or any documentary project. So instead of the usual unknown high school sporting event or portraits of people you've never heard of, there will be some familiar faces and scenes from familiar places. The best thing about this is that you'll be able to order prints to decorate your walls!

First up is a head shot of Joker circa 1989. I've got a cardboard box full of old toys tucked away in my old bedroom in my parents house. I'm pretty glad I've kept them this long, although this past Christmas my nephew has collected his inheritance. Anyway, shout out to Jack Nicholson...best Joker ever.

Hangin' with Chad

Shout out to Todd McFarlane (creator of SPAWN among other things).

When I was younger I started a whole lot of toy collections, never really finishing any of them. He-Man, ThunderCats, Ninja Turtles, Dick Tracy...all collecting dust in a box somewhere in Katy, TX. I might have to find a few of those throwbacks to shoot one of these days.

Being a sports fan, I got hooked on McFarlane's Sports Picks series late in my teenage years. It was the perfect combination at the time because as I was too old to play with toys, these toys weren't to be played with. Yet it was another excuse to start a new collection. So I did. Then when I got into photography, I thought it would be a good idea to shoot them. So I did. You can see more examples in the toy section of my website. And if I have a slow blog day...I'll probably post some more.
