QB/WR Jake: Part III

Five years ago while living in Washington DC, I shot an awful lot of high school sports (shout out to DCSportsFan). Depending on what season it was, I was shooting a game almost daily and had visited many different high school athletic fields and gymnasiums in the DMV. Sometime in October 2009 a parent reached out to me to photograph her son, Jake, who was the starting quarterback of the Maret Frogs. The first game I shot was pretty much played in a monsoon but the second game had better weather and a Maret victory.

Fast forward to October 2014 where I am contacted by the same parent with a similar request. She wants me to photograph Jake again, but this time he's a WR at Kenyon College in Ohio. Pretty cool right? Right?! I traveled to Ohio, where the weather was just a little bit cooler, to photograph Jake play the Allegheny Gators. Fun Fact: Kenyon just ended the season with a 1-9 record...guess who their one win came against? I'll give you a hint, it rhymes with Ballegheny Tators. I am the good luck charm.

So here is a very superficial visual view of Jake's senior years of high school and college football, respectively. Big shout out to Jake and his family and smaller shout out to Homage, where I finally made a pilgrimage.

QB Jake: Part II

Last weekend, I went back to photograph Jake this time against the rival Potomac School in McLean, VA. Not only did the Maret Frogs take home a 13-6 victory, but they did it during Potomac's homecoming. The good thing was that there was no rain this time. The great thing was that Jake threw a sweet touchdown pass in the winning effort. If you click here and go to picture #13, you can see me missing the second half of that touchdown pass. But here is the first half of the play, right before he gets crushed by a defensive linemen.

QB Jake

I got a pretty cool assignment this past weekend to photograph Jake, the quarterback of the Maret School Frogs. The not so cool part of the assignment was that it rained for much of the game and not just normal rain or drizzle. It was a heavy rainforest/monsoon type downpour and sideways rain that I'm not really a big fan of. Luckily for me, I was prepared and able to keep the gear dry but at some points it wasn't even worth taking a picture.

It was a really competitive game but Jake and the Frogs lost to Flint Hill in two overtimes 13-7. Next week, Maret has a shot at redemption against The Potomac School. Shout out to the weather for being uncooperative for most of the game but allowing the sun to come out immediately after it ended.
