Blah

Nothing special this night. This was my first time in St. John's Gallagher Gymnasium. It was senior night for Derrick Thomas...and he went off in a near twenty point win. Shout out to Jim Tressel who is inspiring coach attire in all sports across the country.

Rivalry Game

Again, we're reaching the end of the high school football season. In this Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) match-up, St. John's (already in the playoffs) played Gonzaga (needed to win to get in). Unfortunately, Gonzaga took the L, but at least they won the soccer championship. The game was held at Blair High School in Silver Spring, MD as St. John's has played all away games this year while their new field was being constructed. More game coverage here.

Rare Read

Only because I don't usually shoot girls high school sports. But this championship occurred on the same day and field as the boys championship, so why not. I don't know much about the two teams (St. John's and O'Connell) but the fans were crazy. St. John's, ranked #1 throughout the season, took home the title with a 2-1 victory. Golden

Allegedly, photographers and filmmakers alike adore the "golden hour"; the hour after sunrise and the hour before sunset. I'm not sure there is a universal admiration amongst visual artists (hence the word allegedly) but I'm a fan. There is nothing particularly great about these shots...I just like the light.

Gooooooooooooollllll!!!!!!!!!

While the highly anticipated football season kicks off across the country at many different levels, futbol sneaks in under the radar. Yesterday marked the start of the high school soccer season (for me at least) with a game featuring DeMatha and St. John's (I don't expect those outside of the DC area to know what I'm talking about). The game was an 8-0 rout in DeMatha's favor, but it was good to be out shooting sports again after somewhat of a hiatus.

Which brings me back to my soccer days as a young lad. My skills in the sport were lacking, but my lightning speed and cat-like reflexes made me a goal scoring machine at this soccer powerhouse. Well, not really, but my goal scoring exploits didn't go unnoticed..ahem, cough, second team all state, cough, ahem. Here's to a great fall sports season.
