Paul VI and the VI Man!

Often in spectator sports, the home fans make a lot of noise and create an atmosphere that give their team a perceived advantage over the visiting team. In football there's the 12th man and in basketball there's the 6th man. But at Paul VI Catholic High School, there is the VI Man. Last Friday, Paul VI played their biggest rival and crosstown competition, Bishop Denis J. O'Connell High School. I photographed both the girls and boys

varsity teams in during their exciting match-ups against O'Connell. The girls were able to pull out a victory but t

he boys were unsuccessful. After giving up the lead shortly after halftime, they never regained it (read about it here). Who knew hundreds of shrieking teenagers could be so

damn loud.

Some Semi-Final Action

Four more games, another day of shooting high school basketball. But this time, I mixed in a couple of girls bball games...why not. For more info...DCSportsFan. Shout out to the Sunday night/Monday morning snow that postponed Monday night's championship games.

Catholic School Basketball

This was the first time I shot a basketball game at the world...okay nationally known DeMatha High School in Hyattsville, MD. It's not as dark as a lot of gyms in the area, but that's not saying much. As you can see, I pretty much shot in that one corner of the gym the whole time. A little lazy, but it was Friday night...and it was only practice. Shout out to Mike Jones head coach of the DeMatha Stags. He told his players not to move, strategically, after a missed free throw so not to foul the opposing team who was down 4 points with single digit seconds counting down to zero.

Saturday Afternoon

This past Saturday afternoon was unusually warm and cloud free. Which meant two things: a) I was happy to be out on yet another high school football sideline b) you can actually see the sunlight as opposed to the usual overcast-ination that the fall brings. Archbishop Carroll lost to Paul VI. The hunt for career stability continues.
