The best thing about photographing championship games is the emotion of the players right after. I often plot to figure out the best place to be to capture that emotion well before the game is over. It all happens very quickly and is usually over before you know it. I must say...I totally missed it this time.

Archbishop Carroll @ St. John's Football
The popular sentiment in the high school sports community is that Archbishop Carroll football is back! Apparently they were a force to be reckoned with in the early to mid 90s but I have yet to see a Carroll team that has even made the playoffs. Maybe that will change this year. Last Saturday they played a game against St. John's College High School in NW Washington in which they captured a stunning 13-6 victory. Read about it here. Shout out to the 93 degree weather. I thought the summer was over.

St. John's @ Gonzaga Lacrosse
One day, I'm going to learn how to play this game. I don't know how or when this is going to happen but I'm going to get a stick with a little net and a rubber ball and learn the rules and the basics. If I knew what was going on and could really anticipate the play then my shots would be that much better. So I'm going to take the time to learn this game. I might even try to play it. Shout out to pick-up lacrosse in the Washington DC metro area. Does anyone play?

WCAC Championships
I'm nearing the end of my basketball coverage for this season. There is no more Georgetown (no more home games) and no more Coolidge (lost in the semifinals). Now Gonzaga is done for the season (lost in the finals). They lost to DeMatha by 19 points after the teams split their two regular season matchups by a total of six points. Now Ballou and DeMatha will meet again in the City Title game at the Verizon Center.

In other news, Elizabeth Seton's basketball team takes the championship title after losing in the semifinals last year to Holy Cross. They will face a tough HD Woodson team in the City Title game. Shout out to the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.

Purple Eagle Redemption against St. John's
Last Sunday afternoon the Gonzaga Purple Eagles got to avenge their loss against O'Connell on Friday night and against St. John's earlier in the season. The game started out shaky, but after a few halftime adjustments, Gonzaga was able to stretch the lead in the end. Read about it here. Shout out to St. John's basketball gym. During a sunny afternoon game, some really nice light comes through the diffused windows on the west side.

Carroll @ St. John's Basketball
While everyone else was watching playoff football Sunday afternoon, I was on Military Rd. shooting some basketball at St. John's high school. I probably should have been watching football. St. John's took the L and the WCAC is still pretty unpredictable. Shout out to Carroll with the Bishop Don Magic Juan uniforms. "Green is for the money, Gold is for the honeys."

The Other Football
Late August means back to school and back to fall sports. While every other sports fan is impatiently waiting for NFL, NCAA and even high school football action, I'm out shooting futbol action. St. John's hosted O'Connell and lost 2-1 during my first soccer game of the season. Shout out to basketball players that play soccer.

Miss Me?
Long time no see, but I've been a little bit busy the past couple of weeks. Flights back and forth to Tampa and honestly not a whole lot of shooting going on in between. I snuck in a baseball game last week, a quarter final matchup between Gonzaga and St. John's. I was witness to two home runs during the game which were the first two home runs I've seen in all of my years (2) of shooting high school baseball. The game, held at Catholic University, was pretty good and came down to the wire. St. John's ended up winning 6-5.

Play-in to the Playoffs
Late February/ early March means a couple of things. One, it's still too cold outside and two, post season basketball is underway. St. John's and Bishop Ireton began the festivities with a play-in game last Thursday night. St. John's was able to move past Ireton and onto the next round where they play Gonzaga. Shout out to the lights in Gallagher Gymnasium at St. John's College High School that make it impossible to get the color balance correct.
